The mindset for success as an entrepreneur

Here are some things I learnt about becoming more successful in business:

  1. Speed of implementation-once you have a idea put it into action,do not procrastinate. You can spend forever waiting for the right moment before launching a new product or idea.Do it now.If it does not work then know you have learned a lesson.Use it and move on.Which leads to..
  2. Failure is just an idea it is not a thing.Failure only exists inside your head if you let it.The great inventor Thomas Eddison said every time something did not work he knew he was one step closer to finding something that did.
  3. You get paid for results not work.People will only hand over money when they get what they want. You must streamline your activities so that everything serves the goal of giving the customer what she wants. So get away from the employee mindset of “I turn up for work so I should be paid”
  4. Most of the things you try in business will not work.Just accept that. You try things then move on.If there is no motion there is stagnation and that means death to your business.
  5. The three things you need to make your business work are a product, marketing and systems. Most people focus on the first to the detriment of the other two.Your marketing must be scientific. You must be able to measure everything, where your leads are coming from and how much they spend to name just two.Your system is how the business works. How orders are taken, where stock is kept ,how product is delivered, how payment is handled, how return goods are handled and how accounting is handled. Once the system is running you just need to fine tune it now and again ,but any bottle necks will close you down.

Steps to success:the four things you must have

Posted: June 22nd, 2009 | Author: | Filed under: Personal Growth | Tags: , , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

1.Consistent application.Don’t try and be a hero and attempt to do it all at once. You are setting yourself up for exhaustion and failure if you do.
2.Develop perspective:some people think you have to aim for some super-excellent achievement of whatever your highest goal is.What you will find is the steady application mentioned in step one will yield unspectacular but important results.
3.Have a way measuring your progress so you can see how far you have come.Take time to look back and acknowledge yourself for all that you have achieved.
4.Practice meditation:every day if possible. It is not for me to recommend a spiritual practice to go with this meditation, but just that act of meditation will clear your mind and leave you in a calm and happy state.A state that has you functioning to your best when you return to your business.

Follow these ways of being and success will come to you that much sooner.

How do you define success?

Really,I want you to think about this.

To alot of people this would mean as much money as they wanted,so that could buy whatever they wanted and have the best experiences too.But have you ever seen that statistic where 95% of people who win the lottery are broke again within five years.

You see people might say they want to be rich but underneath they don’t.

What they want is the comfort and safety  which is why they are content to stay in cubicle land where they are told what to do,when to do it and how much they will be paid to do it.

This safety will be lacking when you start a work form home job.Can you discipline yourself to do what needs to be done, cut out the distractions and just keep going?

Some may define success by how many people like them which often goes hand in hand with the safety model. If you do what you are told to do how could anyone dislike you?

Or is success to you defined by failure. You knew it wouldn’t work and hey you were right.

You need to see where you are in all this because if yout mindset is against you no business guru is going to save you.

AND you must see what success is for people who are going to join your team, because if they are any of the above they will not help your grow your business.

Ask the right questions of yourself and others and you will have the right mindset and so will your team.

Building Self Worth

If you are just starting out in a home based business, you may think you don’t know very much.It seems everyone else knows more than you,so what contribution do you have to make?

This period is very important for you so don’t be in a rush to get past it.Because the thing you will develop at this stage is the will to NEVER GIVE UP

There is a story about Winston Churchill who gave an address to the boys of Harrow school in 1941.The myth is that he got up and said these words:

“Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never–in nothing, great or small, large or petty–never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

After that he just sat down. The truth is he said quite a bit more, put you get the point.

Many businesses fail in their first 12 months.Don’t let yours be one of them. This is probably the hardest part of the whole business cycle, getting airborne, getting altitude.

This is the time to learn to soak up as much information as you can from those that have gone before you.

Keep focused on your long term goals AND the next action step that is in from of you.Head in the clouds and feet on the ground as they say.

Perhaps you know that Thomas Eddison invented many things still in use today. But his success was built on failure. He invented so many things that just did not work.

But rather than give up he used his failure to generate more success. If you are not failing then you are not trying hard enough.

So never give in.Another Churchill quote ” if you are going through hell keep going”.

The light on the other side will be that much brighter.
