Here are some things I learnt about becoming more successful in business:
Speed of implementation-once you have a idea put it into action,do not procrastinate. You can spend forever waiting for the right moment before launching a new product or idea.Do it now.If it does not work then know you have learned a lesson.Use it and move on.Which leads to..
Failure is just an idea it is not a thing.Failure only exists inside your head if you let it.The great inventor Thomas Eddison said every time something did not work he knew he was one step closer to finding something that did.
You get paid for results not work.People will only hand over money when they get what they want. You must streamline your activities so that everything serves the goal of giving the customer what she wants. So get away from the employee mindset of “I turn up for work so I should be paid”
Most of the things you try in business will not work.Just accept that. You try things then move on.If there is no motion there is stagnation and that means death to your business.
The three things you need to make your business work are a product, marketing and systems. Most people focus on the first to the detriment of the other two.Your marketing must be scientific. You must be able to measure everything, where your leads are coming from and how much they spend to name just two.Your system is how the business works. How orders are taken, where stock is kept ,how product is delivered, how payment is handled, how return goods are handled and how accounting is handled. Once the system is running you just need to fine tune it now and again ,but any bottle necks will close you down.
To your success

Recently I went to a seminar led by a friend of mine Rian Torres,on the subject of raw food.
You see I have been a veggie for about 15 years now but still was a bit overweight and felt very tired after big meals.I felt I needed to change again hence my attendance at Rian’s seminar.
The upshot of it is that I have given up on alcohol, dairy(milk and eggs) sugar and wheat, yes wheat.I always felt bloated after eating bread and never knew why.Now I do.The result is I have now lost 7 kilos in weight.
I mention all this because if you want to function at an optimum state then you have to get your physical well being in order.
All those big boozy lunches will eventually take there toll.Just look at the number of overweight businessmen you see walking down the street,on their way to the next liquid lunch.
I wonder how they are able to focus on work.
If you want to be successful in any area of your life then you need to have your body functioning at it’s best and that is achieved through having the right diet and taking exercise.
If you want to go down the raw path I suggest you start with breakfast.Cut out the full English breakfast:sausage egg tomato fired bread. There is almost nothing in that to put you in good shape for the day.
Don’t change over all at once,do it a bit at a time to allow your body to adjust.
The best book for raw vegan dishes is Healthful Cuisine by Ann Maria Clements as the other recommend too many nuts
Pricey I know but worth it.
My friend Rian has created the first residential living foods centre in the UK at Kings Worthy near Winchester SO23 7NH.
She is having a grand open day on 7th November 2009 and you are invited to come along from 1030am to 5pm.Entrance is free and there will be free lectures and you can get to taste some great raw food. You can find more details at her website.
Let this be your introduction to raw food.If you want more success in your life then you have to get your body in shape. That way you will operate a peak performance and your mind will be more settled too.A great state to be in the next time you meditate.
Goal setting is all the rage now.We are told to get a piece of paper and write down in the present tense what it is we want. For how can we get where we want to go if we don’t know where that place is.Do visualisations and affirmations next, invoke the law of attraction and bingo you reach you goal.
Yet how many people doing all that actually get there.?What puts then off is all the fears that come up,for going for goals will mean change. The safe and predictable life we lead will vanish.Better to define your fears first, then set your goals. Here is a video of Tim Ferriss he of The 4-hour Work Week fame presenting a great technique for identifying those fears and then dealing with them.
It was the technique he used to get out a cubicle land and live the life he loves.Enjoy.
Do you agree with what he said? What are your greatest fears that hold you back?Leave a comment below.
1.Consistent application.Don’t try and be a hero and attempt to do it all at once. You are setting yourself up for exhaustion and failure if you do.
2.Develop perspective:some people think you have to aim for some super-excellent achievement of whatever your highest goal is.What you will find is the steady application mentioned in step one will yield unspectacular but important results.
3.Have a way measuring your progress so you can see how far you have come.Take time to look back and acknowledge yourself for all that you have achieved.
4.Practice meditation:every day if possible. It is not for me to recommend a spiritual practice to go with this meditation, but just that act of meditation will clear your mind and leave you in a calm and happy state.A state that has you functioning to your best when you return to your business.
Follow these ways of being and success will come to you that much sooner.
I am sure you have all seen the movie The Secret or perhaps read the book.It has popularized the Law of Attraction though the Law first came to public attention many years before.
In essence the law states that what you think about you will attract. So if you have negative thoughts then negative things will happen to you,or at least what you want to happen will not happen.
The movie has been seen by so many people who are now all practicing their affirmations and thinking positive thoughts. The trouble is that for many the whole thing is just not working.
Here are my recommendations for turning things around:
1.Continue to do your affirmations and positive thinking as before but then TAKE ACTION.I have learnt that just thinking about what you want will not make a cheque for $1m fall through the letter box.By taking action all sorts of opportunities will come your way, be they people or events, that will move you towards your goal. These situations will not manifest themselves unless you are in the FLOW of life and you are not in the flow unless you are TAKING ACTION.
2.Get a mastermind group going.Napoleon Hill his great book Think and Grow Rich talked about getting together with other like minded people and helping each other out.Share your goals and dreams together and then go a group visualisation in which you focus on each member’s goal in turn. The power of this process cannot be exaggerated.
3.LET GO of your attachment to the outcome. That does not lessen your resolve to see the goal achieved,it just means that should it not come off you don’t give up on everything. You learn your lessons, for there are always lessens to be learned in failure, and move onto your next project.
Follow this process and watch your desires manifest themselves.
To alot of people this would mean as much money as they wanted,so that could buy whatever they wanted and have the best experiences too.But have you ever seen that statistic where 95% of people who win the lottery are broke again within five years.
You see people might say they want to be rich but underneath they don’t.
What they want is the comfort and safety which is why they are content to stay in cubicle land where they are told what to do,when to do it and how much they will be paid to do it.
This safety will be lacking when you start a work form home job.Can you discipline yourself to do what needs to be done, cut out the distractions and just keep going?
Some may define success by how many people like them which often goes hand in hand with the safety model. If you do what you are told to do how could anyone dislike you?
Or is success to you defined by failure. You knew it wouldn’t work and hey you were right.
You need to see where you are in all this because if yout mindset is against you no business guru is going to save you.
AND you must see what success is for people who are going to join your team, because if they are any of the above they will not help your grow your business.
Ask the right questions of yourself and others and you will have the right mindset and so will your team.
When starting out in internet marketing, you are bombarded with gurus from all angles telling you what you should be doing.making videos, posting blogs, posting on forums, writing ezine articles.Where do you start?
Having gone through this process myself, the important thing is to focus on just a few key areas and not try to spread yourself too thinly.Right now social media is very hot so get your profile up on Twitter, facebook,Myspace and YouTube.
The second thing to make sure of is have a set time each day when you will work on your business,no more than 90 minutes at a time without distractions. In particular resist the urge to check your email constantly.Do it twice a day and not before 12 noon.
In between these 90 bursts do something kinesthetic such as going for a run or walk, anything that get you moving.
Do meditation as least twice a day, just for 10 minutes each if you are starting out,it will clear your mind.
Ensure all that you do has the end of putting valuable content out there. This will make you a person of INFLUENCE and people will be attracted to you.
If you are just starting out in a home based business, you may think you don’t know very much.It seems everyone else knows more than you,so what contribution do you have to make?
This period is very important for you so don’t be in a rush to get past it.Because the thing you will develop at this stage is the will to NEVER GIVE UP
There is a story about Winston Churchill who gave an address to the boys of Harrow school in 1941.The myth is that he got up and said these words:
“Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never–in nothing, great or small, large or petty–never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”
After that he just sat down. The truth is he said quite a bit more, put you get the point.
Many businesses fail in their first 12 months.Don’t let yours be one of them. This is probably the hardest part of the whole business cycle, getting airborne, getting altitude.
This is the time to learn to soak up as much information as you can from those that have gone before you.
Keep focused on your long term goals AND the next action step that is in from of you.Head in the clouds and feet on the ground as they say.
Perhaps you know that Thomas Eddison invented many things still in use today. But his success was built on failure. He invented so many things that just did not work.
But rather than give up he used his failure to generate more success. If you are not failing then you are not trying hard enough.
So never give in.Another Churchill quote ” if you are going through hell keep going”.
The light on the other side will be that much brighter.
I made this video ,the third of a series I am making about our relationship with money
We need to understand the freedom that money can provide, and not become attached to it.
We need to ensure that we have integrity withe money and not allow corruption to take us over, even little petty corruptions like taking stationary from our employer. For from this grows corruption which can eventually take over a whole culture.
Finally we must show gratitude for all that we receive ,yes even for things we paid for. Think about the people involved in getting food into the supermarket for us to buy.So much was done for us but do we ever bother to give thanks.
